Saudi Arabia Traffic Signs Guide 2026 —
Everything You Need to Know

📅 April 2026 ⏱️ 7 min read ✅ Verified facts

1. Why traffic signs matter for the Dallah test

Traffic signs make up approximately 40% of the Dallah computer test — around 14 out of 35 questions. This means you can score 14 points just from signs alone. Most people who fail the test do so because they underestimate how many sign questions appear.

The good news is that traffic signs follow a clear system. Once you understand the four categories and what each shape and colour means, you can work out the meaning of many signs you have never seen before.

Key fact — 40% of the test is signs

Of the 35 questions in the real Dallah computer test, around 14 are about traffic signs. Master the signs and you are nearly halfway to passing before you start on the rules section.

2. The 4 types of Saudi road signs

Saudi Arabia follows the Vienna Convention on Road Signs and Signals, which it acceded to in 2022. All road signs are classified into four categories. Learn the category first — the shape and colour tells you what the sign is about before you even read it.

⚠️

Warning Signs

Alert you to hazards or changes in road conditions ahead. Always triangular with a red border on white.

Shape: Red triangle · Action: Slow down, be alert
🚫

Regulatory Signs

Tell you what is prohibited or the maximum/minimum limits. Circular with a red border, or the red STOP octagon.

Shape: Red circle · Action: You must obey — it is law
🔵

Mandatory Signs

Tell you what you must do — direction, minimum speed, lane to use. Blue circles with white symbols.

Shape: Blue circle · Action: You must follow this instruction
🟢

Guide & Information Signs

Directions, distances, services. Usually rectangular — green for highways, blue for services.

Shape: Rectangle · Action: Information only

3. Warning signs — red triangle

Warning signs are the most common signs you will see on Saudi roads. They are always a white triangle with a red border and a black symbol inside showing the specific hazard ahead.

Key warning signs to know

  • Exclamation mark (!) — General hazard ahead not covered by a more specific sign. Slow down and be alert.
  • Pedestrian figure — Pedestrian crossing or pedestrian activity ahead. Be ready to stop.
  • Camel silhouette — Camels may be on or crossing the road. Very common on Saudi desert roads. Extremely dangerous at night.
  • Traffic lights symbol — Traffic signals ahead. Approach at a speed that allows stopping safely.
  • Skidding car on wavy surface — Slippery road surface ahead. Reduce speed.
  • Crossroads (+) — Junction or crossroads ahead. Slow down and be prepared to give way.
  • Narrow lines — Road narrows ahead. Watch for merging traffic.
  • Roundabout arrows — Roundabout ahead. Give way to vehicles inside.
  • Two arrows (two-way) — Two-way traffic ahead on this road.
  • Speed bump hump — Speed bump ahead. Slow down before reaching it.

4. Regulatory signs — red circle

Regulatory signs tell you what is legally required or prohibited. They are circular with a red border, or in the case of STOP, a red octagon. Ignoring a regulatory sign is a traffic violation.

Key regulatory signs to know

  • Red circle with a number — Maximum speed limit. You must not exceed this speed on this road.
  • Red circle with white horizontal bar — No Entry. Do not enter in this direction.
  • Red octagon (STOP) — You must come to a complete stop. Not a give way — a full stop.
  • Inverted triangle (point down) — Give Way (Yield). Let other traffic pass before proceeding.
  • Two cars with red diagonal line — No Overtaking. You must not pass other vehicles here.
  • P with red diagonal line — No Parking.
  • Two diagonal lines (cross) — No Stopping or Parking at any time.
  • Right arrow with red diagonal line — No Right Turn.
  • Left arrow with red diagonal line — No Left Turn.
  • U-turn arrow with red diagonal line — No U-Turn.

⚠️ STOP vs Give Way — a common test question

The STOP sign (red octagon) requires a complete stop. The Give Way sign (inverted triangle) means yield but you do not have to fully stop if the road is clear. This distinction is frequently tested in the Dallah computer test.

5. Mandatory signs — blue circle

Mandatory signs tell you what you must do — they are instructions, not suggestions. They are blue circles with white symbols. Failing to follow a mandatory sign is a traffic violation.

Key mandatory signs to know

  • Blue circle with right arrow — You must turn right. Mandatory instruction.
  • Blue circle with left arrow — You must turn left. Mandatory instruction.
  • Blue circle with upward arrow — You must go straight. One-way road.
  • Blue circle with circular arrows — Roundabout. You must follow the roundabout direction.
  • Blue circle with number (e.g. 60) — Minimum speed limit. You must drive at least this speed.
  • Blue circle with pedestrian — Pedestrian zone. Vehicles not permitted.
  • Blue circle with right-pointing arrow — Keep right. You must pass to the right of an obstruction.

6. Guide and information signs

Guide signs provide directions, distances, and service information. They are rectangular and do not carry legal obligations — they are informational only.

  • Green rectangles — Highway directional signs showing destinations and exits.
  • Blue rectangles — Service information signs (parking P, hospital +, fuel pump, etc.).
  • Yellow/orange diamond — Priority road. You have right of way on this road.

7. How to memorise signs fast

The most effective way to memorise Saudi traffic signs is to learn by category first, then by individual sign. Here is the system:
